My Story

The descent began. My tears pressed against the back of my eyelids, threatening to spill over and shame me. My heart raced as I tried in vain to allow the music to minister and return me to a sense of control.

I had ventured up the mountains of Machu Picchu, Peru, the fulfilment of a dream I never knew I had. But attaining my dream to reach the mountaintop required a journey back to the plain. And my journey downwards in the face of my lifelong fear of heights had taken a sledge hammer to my normal defenses. I felt trapped.

I grabbed the arm of my group leader as I let go of my last desperate attempt to cling to dignity. It no longer mattered who saw me. It was now a struggle for breath. Recognising my distress, his sister gently took my arm and led me on the journey downward to the new elevation. There, I remained seated on a rock a few feet away from the mountain edge, trying to regain my equilibrium.

As I looked out at the majesty that lay before me, the paradox of all paradoxes occurred. With no guard rails, surely in a more vulnerable place than the stone steps I had just descended, I could feel my breath slow as the words of the songs penetrated and ministered to my fear. Within minutes, I had moved from a massive anxiety attack to a profound peace. That rock, safely tucked away from the edge of the mountain, had become my ‘looking point.’

The Looking Point Way

Looking Point Solutions aims to provide clients with such a looking point. We define it as that safe space that allows you to attend to your inward self, as you grapple with those areas where you feel most vulnerable.

The view from my looking point at Machu Picchu was breath-taking and life-changing. Surrounded by mountain peaks covered with deep forests, valleys beyond compare and indescribable skies, they brought perspective to my difficulty at getting there.

As we navigate your internal challenges at Looking Point Solutions, may you find your possibilities and vistas in your life, beyond your imagination.
